Acceptable Use Policy

The DSL Bahamas Acceptable Use Policy has been developed with the following goals in mind:

  • Ensure security, reliability and privacy of DSL Bahamas  systems and network, and the networks and systems of others.

  • Avoid situations that may cause DSL Bahamas to incur civil liability.

  • Maintain the image and reputation of DSL Bahamas as a responsible provider.

  • Preserve the value of Internet resources as a conduit for free expression.

  • Encouragetheresponsible use of net resources, discouraging practices whichdegradethe usability of network resources and thus the value ofInternetservices.

  • Preserve the privacy and security of individual users.
TheAcceptableUse Policy below defines the actions which DSL Bahamasconsiders to beabusive, and thus, strictly prohibited. The examplesnamed in this listare non-inclusive, and are provided solely forguidance to DSLBahamas customers. If you are unsure whether anycontemplated useor action is permitted, please send mail to management@dslbahamas.com and we will assist you.Pleasenotethat the actions listed below are also not permitted from otherInternetService Providers on behalf of, or to advertise, any servicehosted byDSL Bahamas, or connected via the DSL Bahamas network.Furthermore, suchservices may not be adv ertised via deceptivemarketing policies.
  • General Conduct

    1. Customersareprohibited from transmitting on or through any of DSL Bahamas'services,any material that is, in DSL Bahamas' sole discretion,unlawful,obscene, threatening, abusive, libelous, or hateful, orencouragesconduct that would constitute a criminal offense, give riseto civilliability, or otherwise violate any local, provincial,national orinternational law.

    2. DSLBahamas servicesmay only be used for lawful purposes.Transmission, distribution, orstorage of any information, data ormaterial in violationof Bahamian regulation or law, or bythe common law, isprohibited. This includes, but is not limited to,material protected bycopyright, trademark, trade s ecret, or any otherstatute. DSL Bahamasreserves the right to remove such illegal materialfrom its servers.

    3. Thecustomeris responsible for keeping his billing data withDSLBahamas up-to-date and accurate. Furnishing false data onthesignup form, contract, or online application, including fraudulentuseof credit card numbers, is grounds for immediate termination, andmaysubject the offender to civil or criminal liability.

    4. Theresaleof DSL Bahamas products and services is not permitted,unlessspecifically permitted and documented in a written agreement.

  • System and Network Security

    1. Customersmaynot attempt to circumvent user authentication or security of anyhost,network, or account ("cracking"). This includes, but is notlimited to,accessing data not intended for the Customer, logging intoa server oraccount the Customer is not expressly authorized to access,or probingthe security of other networks (such as running a SATAN scanor similartool).

    2. Customersmaynot attempt to interfere with service to any user, host, ornetwork("denial of service attacks"). This includes, but is not limitedto,"flooding" of networks, deliberate attempts to overload a service,andattempts to "crash" a host.

    3. Customersmaynot use any kind of program/script/command, or send messages ofanykind, designed to interfere with a user's terminal session, viaanymeans, locally or by the Internet.

    4. Userswhoviolate systems or network security may incur criminal orcivilliability. DSL Bahamas will cooperate fully withinvestigations ofviolations of systems or network security at othersites, includingcooperating with law enforcement authorities in theinvestigation ofsuspected criminal violations.

  • Email

      Mail Abuse Protection System (MAPS)

      Violationsofthe following Email Policies can and probably will get you and/oryourISP added to our Blacklist, which will not allow any email fromyouand/or your ISP to be sent through or to our systems.DSLBahamas Internetuses Email Server software that rejects any andall email that containsforged header (envelope) information and emailfrom known Spammers anddoes not allow forwarding of email through oursystems. We also do notallow anonymous sending of email using oursystems. DSLBahamas Internetalso implements the Realtime Blackhole List (RBL)on ALL of our EmailServers, so if you get on the RBL you will bebanned from our systemsalso. . All requests for removal from the DSL Bahamas Internet Email Server Blacklist must be made by phone to (242) 328-0048.
    1. Harassment, whether through language, frequency, or size of messages, is prohibited.

    2. Customersmaynot send email to any person who does not wish to receive it. Ifarecipient asks to stop receiving email, the customer must not sendthatperson any further email.

    3. Customersareexplicitly prohibited from sending unsolicited bulk mail messages("junkmail" or "spam"). This includes, but is not limited to,bulk-mailing ofcommercial advertising, informational announcements,and politicaltracts. Such material may only be sent to those who haveexplicitlyrequested it.

    4. Customers may not forward or otherwise propagate chain letters, whether or not the recipient wishes to receive such mailings.

    5. Maliciousemail,including but not limited to "mailbombing" (flooding a user orsite withvery large or numerous pieces of email), is prohibited.

    6. Forging of header information is not permitted.

    7. DSLBahamas accountsor services may not be used to collect replies tomessages sent fromanother Internet Service Provider, where thosemessages violate thisAcceptable Use Policy or the Acceptable UsePolicy of that otherprovider.

    8. Theserulesapply to other types of Internet-based distribution mediums aswell,such as RLG's Ariel system (a system for sending FAX-likedocuments overthe Internet). USENET postings have their ownregulations; see below.

  • USENET

    1. DSLBahamasprovides an uncensored newsfeed. As such, DSL Bahamas doesnotcontrol the content of the newsgroups available to its customers.DSLBahamas is not responsible for the content of any USENETposting,whether or not the posting was made by a DSLBahamas customer.

    2. PostingstoUSENET newsgroups must comply with the written charters or FAQsforthose newsgroups. Advertisements should only be posted inthosenewsgroups whose charters/FAQs explicitly permit them. The posterisresponsible for determining the etiquette of a given newsgroup,priorto posting to it.

    3. Customersareprohibited from posting the same or similar message to largenumbers ofnewsgroups (excessive cross-posting or multiple-posting,also known as"USENET spam").

    4. Customers are prohibited from posting chain letters of any type.

    5. Customers are prohibited from posting binary files to newsgroups not specifically named for that purpose.

    6. Customersareprohibited from cancelling or superseding posts other than theirown,with the exception of official newsgroup moderators performingtheirduties.

    7. Customersareprohibited from forging header information. This includesattempting tocircumvent the approval process for posting to amoderated newsgroup.

    8. Acustomermay not solicit mail for any other address other than that ofthecustomer's DSL Bahamas account or service, with the intent toharass orcollect replies after DSL Bahamas service has been terminated.

  • IRC (Internet Relay Chat)

    1. DSLBahamas isnot liable for the content of any communications madeon IRC. The DSLBahamas IRC service is a free, value-added service forDSL Bahamascustomers, and the terms of its operation may change at anytime. DSLBahamas reserves the right to ban from its IRC serverany userwhose conduct is, in Glinx's sole judgement, disruptive.

    2. IRC robots ("bots" or "clones") may not be run from DSL Bahamas shell account.

    3. Customers may not attempt to impersonate others or use IRC anonymously by disguising their hostname or username.

    4. Customersareprohibited from using IRC scripts or programs that interfere withordeny service to other users on any server or host. Customers arealsoprohibited from engaging in activities which harass other users.Thisincludes, but is not limited to, "flooding" (rapidly entering textwiththe intent to fill the screens of others), "flashing"(disruptingterminal emulation), "takeovers" (forcibly seizingoperatorprivileges), attempting to send private messages to those whodo notwish to see them (via "ignore"), attempting to return to achannelafter being banned from it, and other disruptive behaviors.

  • DSL Accounts


    1. DSLBahamasDSL accounts are intended for use by an individual. Multiplelogins areprohibited, except one additional login via telnet inaddition to theinitial login. Shell account users may not run programswhich providenetwork services from their accounts, such as IRC or MUDservers.

    2. DSLBahamas shellaccounts are intended for interactive use. Attemptsto circumvent the'idle daemon', or attempts to run programs while notlogged in by anymethod, are prohibited.

    3. DSLBahamas shellaccounts operate on shared resources. Customers areprohibited fromexcessive consumption of resources, including CPU time,memory, diskspace, and session time. The use of resource-intensiveprograms whichnegatively impact other system users or the performanceof DSLBahamas systems or networks is prohibited, and DSL Bahamasstaffmay take action to limit or terminate such programs/sessions.

    4. DSL Bahamas accounts are allocated free Personal Webspace under http://www.dslbahamas.com/~username,intendedfor personal use only. Customers must not exceed the assigneddiskquota, based on the account package selected. Webspace reported tobe inviolation of any portion of the Acceptable Use Policy shall beremoved.Any account's webspace exceeding 10,000 hits per month mayresult inadditional charges.

    5. Passwordsecurityis the responsibility of the individual user. Good passwordsshould be aminimum of six characters long, contain at least one numberor symbol,and are not based on any dictionary word or common name.Customers maynot share passwords or accounts with others.
